As probably one of the most famous equity traders in the world, Anton Kreil inspired many people to pursue a career in trading. While being successful a long time before it, his popularity skyrocketed after his appearance on the reality TV show Million Dollar Traders. Ever since, countless admirers are wondering what is his recipe for success and how high his net worth really is. We will try to answer both questions in this article.
While the exact level of his wealth is not publicly disclosed, several online sources are placing Kreil’s net worth between $8 and $13 million with the most recent estimates from 2019 being closer to the higher end of this span. This sounds almost too good to be true but don’t forget that he managed to gain several powerful income sources. Anton worked for years for the most prestigious investment banks where he was paid a hefty salary, he made money for himself through the day trading and last but not least he also had a great contract with BBC for his appearance on TV. All that made him really rich man although he is not figuring at Forbes list of most wealthy people.
This brings us to Anton Kreil’s biography which is truly inspiring. He was born January 16th, 1979 in Liverpool, United Kingdom into a family that was anything but wealthy. Actually, young Anton was the very first member of his family to ever attend and finish college. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics at the Manchester University. But what is even more impressive, Goldman Sachs offered him a job as a trader even before his graduation. This prestigious investment bank saw his undeniable talent and hired him.
Head hunters became extremely interested in Kreil and over the time offered him irresistible trading jobs at both, Lehman Brothers and JP Morgan banks. After spending a long time in a corporate world, Anton decided to take a break from turbulent market and traveled the world to clean his head. That was in 2007, only a year before the big financial crisis triggered by low-grade mortgages. Talking about the perfect timing, right?
After returning from his trips around the world, he launched his own website Hablib.com which was a for-sale-by-owner real estate portal. Anton Kreil’s net worth continued to grow and he was already pretty famous in financial circles but still relatively unknown among the regular crowd. That changed in 2009 when he appeared as a mentor at the reality BBC show Million Dollar Traders. Devised by a rich investor Lex van Dam, show’s main goal was to teach group of amateurs the art of day trading. Those people had no prior experience with the stock market and the group included even a student and a working mom.
This was not a completely new idea but rather a shot at recreating famous “Turtle Traders” experiment in which people from all ways of life were coached on how to speculate in the stock market and the whole group grossed over $150 million over the course of 4 years. 23 of these stock novices became millionaires. Nothing as mindblowing happened during the short time span in which Million Dollar Traders was broadcasted. But those who lasted (many left, disliking the working conditions and high stress) averaged better result in volatile markets than group of professionals over the same time period. That sometimes meant posting small gains or at least smaller losses than pros.
Can you be even surprised that ever since, Kreil kept receiving letters from people, asking him to teach them how to make a day trading their main source of income? That is when the idea of founding the Institute of Trading and Portfolio Management (ITPM) was born. Kreil founded it back in 2011. That way he can educate people on how to avoid common trading mistakes and how to become profitable. He is still a managing partner today but he is employing many other experienced traders as mentors. Let’s mention for example Raj Malhotra, David Perlin, and Hichem Djouhri. Their mentoring programs seem to be quite popular.
So as you can see, it is not as surprising that in 2019, Kreil’s net worth is probably around 12 or 13 million dollars. He had many big income streams over his productive life and although he is not anybody’s employee right now, he is managing his own coaching business.
